Summary: This book examines the evolution, growth and increasing intensity of trade between New Zealand and Latin American countries. Trade Between New Zealand and several of these countries has grown in value and the trade relationship have strengthened during the past forty years. Initially trade occurred erratically and in some cases was driven by specific domestic supply shortages in a countries in a growing range of products. Country specific gravity models are developed to explain bilateral New Zealand Latin American country trade during 1958-1997. income and population are important explanations for trade intensity together with non-traditional variables such as political and military events, diplomatic and marketing efforts. The book comments on possible future trends in this trade.
